If any of you know me, the only beauty treatment that I am serious about is eyebrow threading. Every 3 weeks, I make it a priority to get them done.  In the states I found an Indian women who threaded from her home (cheaper) or, after having kids I had to go where it was most convenient(the mall). After arriving in Australia, I was pretty discouraged by the price, $20 Australian Dollars ,which is about $15 USD. I’m sorry, but that is ridiculous for a 5-minute job where the tool is just some thread. In India, its just a few bucks to get it done. In the states it costs $10 at the mall, but when I found a woman who did it from her home, it was $4.

The second week I was here I was at the playground with the kids. The Lord immediately pressed it upon my heart to go talk to this Indian woman. We started to chat about our children, our families and Australia. Something inside of me knew to ask about eyebrow threading. I asked her if she knew anyone that did it from their home, she had a smile on her face and said, I do! She then proceeded to tell me that was her primary job before having her son. She worked at a local salon. She said she would happily do it for $7 USD ($10 Aussie). She also proceeded to tell me how nice I was and that she never met anyone like me. All I did was talk to her, care and love her, nothing more, nothing less. I was just being Jonali and was obedient to the conviction of the Holy Spirit in talking to her, God did the rest.

This is a local playground in Australia where I met the sweet Indian lady!

The story continues…

After a week upon meeting her, I asked if anyone else in my school wanted to get theirs done too. Three people happily said they would love to. The Lord prompted my heart to buy some roses and write her an encouraging card. We all chipped in and bought some and wrote in the card. Little did she know that morning, that God was going to touch her with His amazing love. The four of us arrived at her apartment and she offered us some water and chocolate. While each one of us were getting our brows threaded, we all had the chance to love her. We also asked if we could pray for her and she agreed. While we started to pray, one friend started to get a word of knowledge (something about her that we wouldn’t know, but only God) and prophetic (encouraging) word over her. She started to cry immediately. His love melted her and touched some very deep places in her heart. She kept saying how we reminded her of her friends back in school and how nice everyone was. She was beyond blessed by the card and roses as well. We also said we would grab coffee in the future.

Sometimes, as Christians, we can get into religion and try to “convert” people. First off, that isn’t our job. Our motivation was not to get there and see her give her life to Jesus. Instead, it was simply loving her, and through that, allowing the Holy Spirit to give us specific information about her that we wouldn’t know so that He can do the work. We can’t do anything in our own strength, just simply obey the voice of God and allow Him to do the rest.

I encourage you, don’t go try and make something happen. Do what Jesus did, love people out of compassion, He does the rest. Be aware of who is around you or who God has placed in our life. A little can go a long way. People are sick of hypocritical Christians, they want the real deal, the real, Jesus. Let’s go out and be Christ-like, not self-like, and lets watch people be transformed by the true, loving, miraculous Father that created the universe!
