The many names of God speak to His character. 1 John 4:8 states, “God is love.” How amazing is that? God literally is the true definition and source of love! But what does that have to do with us? Well, love is not something God could keep from His beloved creation. It was His good intention to pursue us with His love to the very ends of the earth if need be. Just read the following verses:
9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
1 John 4:9-10New King James Version (NKJV)
The love of God will never be satisfied until He is able to wrap you up in His arms of love, put an exquisite robe around your shoulders, a ring on your finger (a sign of shared authority), prepare a banquet for you and welcome home His son/daughter. There just isn’t anything else like the love of God. We run from Him and all He desires to do is lavish His great love upon us.
And make no mistake, He will not stop. His love compels Him. He will not stop pursuing you with His love struck plan to restore you back to the rightful place at His table. “Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross…”Heb 12:2 The ‘joy set before Him’ in the midst of the gruesome cross was the plan to give Himself for the one He loves…You! “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” Jn 15:13
God (Love) is Pursuing You
Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue (chase, hunt) me all the days of my life
Psalm 23:6
Let me share a story that I feel like I’ve witnessed 100’s of variations of over the years. Last week, on Tuesday, I met with a group of close friends to pray and seek the Lord’s face, as we do every week. My friend John was late because he was praying with the instructors of his children’s break-dancing class. One of the instructors had a pain in his neck that was severely limiting his range of motion.
The three young men had little and in some cases no background with God. As it turns out, one of them was a student of Johns over 10 years ago. He had two of them attempt to gauge the mobility then prayed. They then reassessed and found significant improvement in the pain level and range of motion. The young men were blown away as it was unfolding. John shared the love of Jesus.
After John left, he relayed the story to our group and we began to intercede for the young men that God would continue the healing work He had begun on one of their necks and continue to reveal Himself to them. We continued praying sporadically for the young men into the early hours of Wednesday morning.
On Friday night, I ran into my friend Mike randomly at an event in Crossgates Mall. Mike is a break-dancer and also a strong believer. I felt prompted to ask him if he’s ever heard of the three fellow breakers. Mike relayed how he had literally just met them for the first time in the prior day or two and he would now be collaborating in teaching their school and working with them 1-on-1 as well.
If you’re piecing this together, the same day (Wed.) we were praying for God to continue healing and showing Himself to them, Mike randomly (or not so randomly) shows up in their lives to continue revealing God’s love to them.
And if that’s not enough, two days after praying, John received an update that he was 95% better and that he was able to actually practice that night after they prayed, which he wasn’t expecting. Within a week the instructor that received prayer made mention to John and his wife to pray about a topic for him. God was on his mind.
I have seen this story unfold enough times to know how it often ends. I hope to bring you good news in the near future.
Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
