Have you ever had a plan, and then a circumstance happens and it turns into a complete change? According to websters dictionary, suddenly means, “without warning, abruptly or quickly.” Sometimes life comes in gradual seasons, and then suddenly, something happens. Whether an unplanned pregnancy, a job shift, a move, an unexpected death, you name it, everyone I am sure has been through it. We can not go through a planned life, that wasn’t God intention, nor is it His plan for us to be in control. In fact, it’s the opposite, our lives need to be malleable, or yielded for God to able to mold us. Let’s take a look at what Jeremiah 18:1-4 says:
“The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying: “Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear My words.” Then I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, making something at the wheel. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make.”
If the clay was hard and not able to be formed well, do you think the word would have said, “it seemed good to the potter to make”? God has drawn out a beautiful correlation between us and Him, using the potter and the clay. We need to be soft, malleable, form-able and able to be molded for His kingdom. I don’t know a lot about ceramics, but what I do know is, a potter can not use clay that is hard, clumpy or dry.
In the last month some of our circumstances have shifted, suddenly and we need to make some major decisions quickly. They have to do with moving and expecting to be in a home, and then all of a sudden, things have changed. When you say that to a woman a few weeks away from her due date who is nesting, it can be a very hard pill to swallow. But we have to learn how to trust God in the unseen, because only He knows our future. A few things have changed unexpectedly, a closing date on a home that keeps getting postponed and a book release date that is taking a lot longer than normal. Both of these things will now happen after the baby closer to the fall, and I had planned to do all the book marketing and promoting before the baby. Now, I need to trust God to be able to do this all with a newborn on little sleep. His timing is perfect, and I need to trust Him in it. We wouldn’t grow if we had a perfect (or controlled) life, we grow and thrive in the unseen, let’s rejoice in that!
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1
