Since adjusting to four kids and releasing a book in the last few months, it’s been a struggle to have time to breathe. It’s literally felt like its been go go go on little sleep. Any new mom can relate to the “night naps”, the chasing other kids, endless household duties, etc. Sometimes it can seem non-stop and hard to “catch a break”. Well, in my case, I think a lot of the reason I have been so overwhelmed, is because I simply try to do it in my own strength, apart from God. I forget to pray continuously and cast my burdens on Him, because His yoke is easy and burden is light. He also promises rest for our soul (Matthew 11).

I think anyone can relate to that “go, go go” lifestyle. We always are going from one thing to the next, which seems like its a never-ending list of things to do. This is why its so so so essential to slow down and make it a priority to spend time with Jesus. Now, if you are a mom like me, its very hard to find time. But, we need to be creative and have our eyes fixed on Him while we are doing things. Practically, that could look like worshiping while working, or mediating on a scripture, or praying continuously. Jesus instructs us to keep our eyes fixed on things above and not on the earth. One of my absolute favorite scriptures is from Isaiah 26:3 :

You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You.

We can have perfect peace continuously, but there is a condition, if our mind is “stayed on God”. I went to a beautiful womens event yesterday and felt like because I have been go go go, I finally felt like during worship, while holding the baby, I could soak in the lyrics. I absolutely lost it because I could so relate to the first song. It brought me back to my first love and God used it to really bring me back to His presence and love. Like the frost on a rose, winter comes for us all
Oh, how nature acquaints us with the nature of patience
Like a seed in the snow, I’ve been buried to grow
For Your promise is loyal, from seed to sequoia
Though the winter is long, even richer
The harvest it brings
Though my waiting prolongs even greater
Your promise for me like a seed
I believe that my season will come
Lord, I think of Your love like a low winter sun
And as I gaze, I am blinded in the light of Your brightness
And like a fire to the snow, I’m renewed in Your warmth
Melt the ice of this wild soul ’til the barren is beautiful
And though the winter is long, even richer
The harvest it brings
Though my waiting prolongs even greater
Your promise for me like a seed
I believe that my season will come
I can see the promise, I can see the future
You’re the God of seasons, I’m just in the winter
If all I know of harvest is that it’s worth my patience
Then if You’re not done working, God, I’m not done waiting
You can see my promise even in the winter
‘Cause You’re the God of greatness even in a manger
For all I know of seasons is that You take Your time
You could have saved us in a second, instead, You sent a Child…
Though the winter is long, even richer
The harvest it brings
Though my waiting prolongs even greater
Your promise for me like a seed
I believe that my season will come
And when I finally see my tree
Still, I believe there’s a season to come
Like a seed You were sown
For the sake of us all
From Bethlehem’s soil
Grew Calvary’s sequoia

May we learn how to truly live out this scripture:

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Matthew 11:28-30
